Continuing the long history of pro golf in Las Vegas, the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open has been played under various names since 1983, and was the first Tour event ever to offer a $1 million purse, and the first non-major with a $5 million purse. Beginning in 2008, pop entertainer Justin Timberlake became the tournament host, thus lending his name to the tournament title as well.
Beginning in 2008, TPC Summerlin was named as the single host of the Shriners, and has always been the course most associated with this event. Prior to 2008, the tournament was always played at multiple courses within the tournament, with players rotating courses from round to round. TPC Summerlin has been noted by Golf Digest as one of America's Best golf courses, and also ranks as one of the Top 100 Modern Golf Courses in the United States.
The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open may be most famous as the site of Tiger Woods' first PGA Tour victory in 1996, when the tournament was known as the Las Vegas Invitational. Woods shot a final round 64 to tie Davis Love III, and then won the title with a par on the first playoff hole.
